There are three foundational articles for Stapled To The Bench. This one, Productivity Rating Calculation and Introduction To Value Rating. They’ll be the first articles released.
Next up will be 2021 Player Awards Based On The Numbers, 2021 Best Players (PR) and 2021 Best Players (VR).
Before the 2022 draft is conducted, I hope to put out three draft-related articles: Value Of A Draft Pick, Best Draft Classes Since 2007, Evaluating Teams On Their Draft Picks.
I want to discuss TeamPR, which is the total PR of all the players who played for a team. I’ll also look at the top three players on each team (Top3) and the next twelve players (Next12, players 4 to 15), to determine whether it’s more important to have a very strong Top3 or a very strong Next12.
In the summer, I hope to get out an article or two on career progression. When does a player hit his peak and how fast is his descent from his peak? Does it matter whether the player is a regular or a star?
Impact Of Having A Stud Center will determine whether teams with stud centers get more points in a season than teams without a stud center. At the start, the article will define what it means to be a center, and what it means to be a stud.
Using a similar approach, Value Of Top Two Defensemen To A Team will look at the record of teams based on the quality of their top two defensemen.
Later in the summer, I hope to have a simple list article on the Best Players Since 2019, using both PR and VR to identify those players. Associated articles would be Best Players Since 2007 and Best Players Who Have Debuted Since 2019.
Towards the end of summer First Good Season will look at the career progression of players based on their age in their first good (PR-Regular or better) season. Team Core Consistency will examine the turn-over of each team’s top ten players from season to season.
An article called The (Hamburglar) Run will look at Ottawa’s player data before the streak and during the streak: did the goalie get too much credit for this amazing run? Before my house renovations begin in the fall, I hope to get Chabot: With Or Without (WOWY), which will examine the Corsi numbers of Ottawa’s defensive pairings.
As you should be able to discern from the last two articles, I’m a bit of an Ottawa fan.
